Summer. It’s a time for high schoolers to both recharge and grow personally. What experiences suit your son over the break? With so many great options, we've highlighted our favorite activities for you to think about during his time off.
Spend time doing what he enjoys most. Kids + summer = fun. Have him take the time to get out there and do what he loves. Maybe it's a band camp, golf lessons, or a summer basketball league. Whatever it is, have him pen time in his schedule for something that brings him joy.
Find a summer job. He can make great memories and new friends while making some money. Not only that, but he'll also acquire new talents, sharpen his time management skills, and add a new meaningful purpose to his life.
Head out on a mission trip. Many churches organize a summer mission trip for high school kids. Its purpose is to help underprivileged people live better lives. A major benefit of a mission trip is the high schoolers see and do things they never have before. Often, those on the mission trip come back with a deeper faith, stronger leadership skills, and a greater respect and appreciation for the world around them.
Experience our Summer Action Retreat. For your younger son who is entering seventh, eighth, or ninth grade, consider exploring our Catholic boarding school. He will have a blast while learning more about St. Lawrence Seminary.
This year, the Summer Action Retreat takes place from June 13 – 15, 2022, at our Mt. Calvary, WI campus. The boys will have three days to play and pray together while getting a sneak peek into life here on the Hill.
The retreat's theme this year is Sealed with the Spirit. Our camp-style format will have the boys participating in faith formation, field Olympics, team building activities, and other engaging events. It's the perfect combination of recharging and growing on a personal level.Transportation to camp is available from:
- Milwaukee, WI
- Green Bay, WI
- Escanaba, MI
- Eau Claire, WI
- Mauston, WI
- Madison, WI
- Chicago, IL
The cost is only $50 per student. This covers all of the costs, including transportation, overnight accommodations, a shirt, and all meals.
However your son fills his time this summer - hanging with friends, learning something new, or perfecting a hobby, we hope it is rewarding on a spiritual and personal level. He can then start the new school year refreshed and renewed, ready to be the best he can be.
