Not knowing what to expect out of an experience is something that can get people very worked up. This anxious anticipation can be especially tangible if you and/or your son is considering a boarding school for high school and are in preparation for a campus visit.
St. Lawrence Seminary High School has been around for over 150 years. Families that have enrolled their sons here at SLS know exactly what they can expect from St. Lawrence Seminary. But if you are a new family considering St. Lawrence as an alternative high school experience for your son, what can you expect and what should you expect from the Weekend Visit to St. Lawrence Seminary High School?
Who is the Weekend Visit at SLS designed for?
First, the Weekend Visit is a scheduled visit for interested boys in the 8th, 9th, or 10th grades. The purpose of the Weekend Visit is to give the visiting students an opportunity to experience life at St. Lawrence Seminary for a weekend. With boarding schools being a non-traditional high school option, it is important for the student to get an idea of what he can expect if he and his parents decide to take the leap in joining the St. Lawrence Seminary community.
What will prospective students of SLS participate in during the Weekend Visit?
The Weekend Visit at St. Lawrence includes more than just attending classes and speaking with faculty. The weekend’s activities also involve the prospective students in after-school activities and extracurriculars, enjoying campus life and downtime, and overall getting an understanding of what life is like outside of the classroom at a boarding high school.
What is the role of parents during the Weekend Visit at SLS?
While it’s important for the prospective students to get an idea of what SLS has to offer, it is also important for the parents to get an idea of what they can expect from partnering with St. Lawrence Seminary. The parents are also invited to join us for a portion of the Weekend Visit (the weekend is a 4-day/3-night event for the students and a 2-day/1-night for the parents) to give them a better understanding of life at St. Lawrence Seminary and to give them a chance to talk with our current students, see the facilities, and speak to various members of our staff and faculty.
Overall, the Weekend Visit is a great opportunity for both the interested student and his parents to get an idea of what partnering with St. Lawrence Seminary for a high school education would be like. Here at SLS, we believe that a campus visit is a necessary opportunity when considering attending.
