Attending a seminary school is a unique experience over other schooling options. At a seminary school, students are exposed to core theological disciplines in a supportive, structured environment that encourages personal growth and exploration. This helps shape men of faith and deepen students’ understanding of Catholicism.

Catholic seminary schools bring faith into the classroom

A Catholic school can help parents by integrating faith into education and academics. In a Catholic school, teachers are not only at liberty but encouraged to emphasize a faith perspective. For example, in a Civics or American Government class, students can not only learn about the First Amendment right to freedom of religion but also discuss how this has both helped and challenged the practice of faith.

Faith in the classroom allows students to ask questions and think critically in a safe, supportive environment. This helps shape confidence in faith and a deeper understanding of religion.

Catholic seminary schools provide support

St. Lawrence Seminary High School takes pride in the open discussion of religion in both the classroom setting and in Spiritual Direction meetings. Spiritual Direction is a place and a time to talk about a relationship with God and what that means. A Spiritual Director might ask about the student’s classes and activities, how he is taking care of himself, how he is getting along with his classmates, or how God is present in his life. The spiritual director will encourage the student to reflect upon all the experiences of his life and bring these to the meetings.

Spiritual direction gives students a person to talk openly to and examine their own faith. This experience can’t be replicated at public or charter schools.

Catholic seminary schools teach valuable life skills

Boarding high schools, like seminary schools, give students a once-in-a lifetime experience and allows the students to learn valuable skills outside of the classroom. By learning time management and how to take care of oneself, students gain a sense of appreciation for their family back at home. Being away from home can help a young person really appreciate their family when they return home during breaks or when their family visits.
